A flack. Oh sorry, I meant I'm a senior external communications counsel to high technology firms and corporate clients. Specialties include: marketing, corporate communications, PR, investor relations, writing, using the word "bollocks", document & knowledge management, presentation and media coaching, using the word "bollocks" in the context of discussions about knowledge management, drinking tea, being late in to the office because I was having breakfast with the kids, working till 3am the same night to make up for same, Catholic guilt, Powerpoint black belt 5th dan. I've lived through five acquisitions, as acquirer or acquired; pitched people, products, processes and pop-tarts; written more annual reports than most doctors recommend and never, ever lied to a reporter. I was a Senior VP at Weber Shandwick, "the world's largest and consistently highest-rated PR agency", until they laid me off for having the temerity to land a half million dollar account. Meh. Before that I was at Cohn & Wolfe. Before that I was VP Communications for a universally-reviled $500-million NASDAQ-listed software vendor with the most aggressive, confrontational CEO on the face of the planet. As part of the harried and self-loathing management team, I caught bullets for the CEO, ran interference for the CFO, learned the fine art of managing in permanent crisis mode and squandered my personal reputation for the hypothetical good of the company. I quit when I realised that I'd had a stand up argument with at least one of my colleagues every single day for more than three months in a row. Now I'd just like a job where I can be brilliant and not have to work with idiots or scumbags for more than 15 minutes. [UPDATE: Got one!!] I know, I know: barely 47 and I still haven't lost that youthful idealism...
