I took my medical degree and specialized postgraduate training (M. Surg.) in Obstetrics and Gynecology in India. I was an assistant professor in a medical school and later an independent clinician with an OG hospital. I have seventeen years of experience in clinical medicine and wide experience in operative Gynecology and high-risk Obstetrics. Since , I have been involved in many activities related to Medical Informatics. I designed and developed clinical information systems to be used in the hospital I served. From -, I worked at the National Library of Medicine as a research fellow in Medical Informatics where I developed a prototype based on Proteus a model that I conceived and designed (httpwww.proteme.org). The model allows creating executable clinical decision support guidelines with modular knowledge components to provide point-of-care advice to clinicians. The guidelines capture the data that the clinicians enter and can serve as an Electronic Medical Record system and kernel of an integrated healthcare information system. All tools created for Proteus are available as open source at httpkenai.comprojectspip. From to August , I worked at City of Hope National Medical Center, as a Biomedical Informatics Scientist. At City of Hope (COH), my efforts were dedicated towards supporting development of tools for clinical research. Specifically, my inputs concerned utilization of ontologies and metadata in systems. I also represented COH in the caBIG program of the NCI contributing towards ensuring interoperability of the applications that are developed in caBIG (httpscabig.nci.nih.gov). From August , I have been working at Henry Ford Health System. My responsibilities at HFHS are focused on Clinical Decision Support related issues in the context of Electronic Health Record Systems and other health systems. I am also contributing towards the DoD managed Semantic Data Capture Initiative project at HFHS. Specialties My key areas of interest in Medical Informatics are the application of distributed component technology to healthcare information systems, clinical decision support systems, user-interface considerations for clinicians, semantic metadata and HL. My IT skills include object oriented analysis and design (with UML) and programming in Java.
