Gregory James decided to go into music professionally in 2004 and wanted to also build a company. Battle rapping was his introduction into Chicago’s hip hop community. None of the battles were filmed so you can't find them on you tube. The lessons and wisdom he's gained from those battles is what Greg says matter most to him. Greg honed his lyricism by song writing and free styling over countless industry and exclusive instrumentals. In 2005 Greg decided to put together a mix tape series titled “Life Music’ under the pseudonym DaCloak. Cloak decided to build a buzz by joining several websites such as reverbnation.com myspace.com, facebook.com, and thatshiphop.com. Cloak dropped his first single in 2007 titled “Chicago's Done It Again†from his mix tape series titled Life Music Vol.1 Hip Hop Lives. “Chicago's Done It Again†received over 1000 plays on myspace.com. While working on the production of the mix tape Cloak attended the Music Industry Workshop (M.I.W.) Westside Music Book Camp in 2008. Cloak set his focus on music production to help with the recording process of his mix tape. He graduated June 2008 receiving an award for being the hardest working student out of his production class and was also given the opportunity to perform. He released Life Music Vol.1 Hip Hop Lives on sept.11, 2008 for free download. Though the buzz wasn't huge Life Music Vol.1 Hip Hop Lives still received over 5000 downloads and above. Cloak’s working on his 2nd project Life Music Vol.2: The Sleeping Giant Is Awake which is coming soon. Cloak released a remix of Busta Rhymes Respect My Conglomerate that’s been on 3 popular radio shows The Diamond Effect Show www.blogtalkradio.com/diamondeffect, Kareemah El Amin and The Straight No Chaser Team turn it or burn it segment www.thecoast.fm, and Hype Underground www.92.5kyhy.com. Cloak is now the owner of his own indie label Deepsea Entertainment Inc. established January 2010. Cloak has released the first single “Living Movie†from the upcoming mix tape which has received 20,000 downloads and counting. My influences are 2 Pac, Notorious B.I.G. Nas, Jay-Z, Twista, Common, Lupe Fiasco, Talib Kweli, Kanye West, Big Pun, & Eminem. I’ve done many concerts and showcases. I've done a few local shows that have helped me build myself as a performer though I really feel theirs still room for improvement. In 2008 I performed at the Music Industry Workshop (M.I.W.) Westside Music Boot Camp graduation June 12, 2008. I performed at Subterranean August 8, 2008 at The Definition of Hip Hop & R&B 2. September 20, 2008 I performed at Bills Blues in Evanston IL. November 9, 2008 I performed at Subterranean for the “I AM CHICAGO†showcase. May 13, 2009 I performed at Subterranean for the “I AM STILL CHICAGO/HATERVILLE†showcase. What makes my style different is that I don't conform or copy any of my influences. My philosophy is that if you're real with the public they'll respond accordingly.
