Virginia Capital Partners invests in a variety of venture capital and private equity situations. We are transaction indifferent - we will invest in almost any interesting situation from start-up to expansion to buyout and even restructuring situations. We are, however, somewhat provincial - we would rather invest close to home than hop on a flight. We generally invest in the Southeast, typically within a reasonable drive of Richmond. Our portfolio company management retain day-to-day operating control. Our role is similar to that of the "invited dinner guest" - we're happy to help clear the table and wash dishes but don't tell our host how to cook. We like to chip in on financial matters; where we have learned a thing or two over the years. Our partnerships seem to work - over the years our portfolio company executive turnover has been virtually zero. We are actively investing across a variety of industries including: Health care services businesses (any business that treats or diagnoses a patient). We love certificate of need operations where real estate is included. Media, especially "old" media including publishing and broadcasting. Unusual real estate opportunities including timberland, self storage facilities, trailer parks, distressed land. Specialties Health care services, media (especially B2B print and other "old world" media), cell towers, insurance, unusual real estate (self storage, trailer parks, flea markets), and distressed businesses.
