Femi's career began when she was fourteen years old, as a junior reporter for the United Kingdom's first talk radio station LBC. Femi continued to work for commercial radio during her time at school and university. When she graduated from Birmingham University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature and Language she joined the BBC as a radio reporter and producer. Before re-locating to the US Femi worked for BBC television and radio, Sky Television and all the UK terrestrial television networks. Femi Oke joined CNN International in 1999. Based at the CNN Center in Atlanta she spent nine years anchoring and reporting. At at time when CNN's Africa coverage was sparse, she helped launch and reported for the network's weekly award-winning African affairs program "Inside Africa". She eventually graduated to being the host of "Inside Africa". Femi has assisted the United Nations World Meteorological Organization with training international broadcast meteorologists in Argentina and Mozambique. Speaking and lecturing credits include the University of Liberia, Emory University, University of South Carolina, European Commission, and World Food Programme in Rome and the United Nations Development Programme in New York, Nairobi and Monrovia. In 2007 Femi Oke's work in Africa was recognized by The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the African Communications Agency with the presentation of the "African Achievers Award 2007". Femi was also named Nigerian media personality of the year in 2007 and picked up the Interaction media award in 2008 for her commitment to broadcasting the complex issues of Africa. Femi is currently based in New York where she's the Senior Editor and special correspondent for the live national morning radio news show "The Takeaway". As well as her radio committments on "The Takeaway" Femi also files stories for BBC Radio from New York and is a podcast host for UNICEF.
