What is Peekyou?

PeekYou

PeekYou A PeekYou profile helps other people find your websites, social-networking pages, photos or anything else about you online. You can also create a profile for friends or relatives to ensure that they may also be easily found online.

You can also register to become a full Contributor which allows you to track your edits to PeekYou and gives you other benefits as well.

Location

How many and what kind of locations can be associated with a PeekYou profile?
PeekYou contributors can link more than one location to a profile. The key is for each added location to be relevant to the person on the profile, and not merely a transient locality. Good examples of relevant locations include birthplace, college town, and any place where that person has lived for a few years. Location therefore does not need to be limited to current locality. When in doubt whether a specific location should be added, consider whether someone who knows that person could plausibly relate him/her principally to the location under consideration. If yes, then that location is a good candidate for being added to the profile.
I do not see my city in the list. What should I do?
Any visitor to PeekYou.com can add cities into the PeekYou database. If you do not see your city listed, please feel free to create a profile for yourself; then you will have an opportunity to add your city. At this point, select your country and state/province and type in the name of the missing city.

Search

How can I search by a particular location?
Every search result is presented alongside the PeekYou toolset, which allows users to narrow down profiles by location. For this you will need to provide a 'country, region, city' combination. You can also specifically search by country on the homepage by selecting the flag of the country you seek.
How can I search by name?
You can use the PeekYou toolset to search by a combination of first and/or last name. Type the names in the respective fields and click on the "Peek!" button. Our suggest feature can help you get the name right if you are uncertain about spelling.
How can I search by username?
A username can be someone's alias in a forum, chatroom, a social networking site, or the ID part of his/her email address etc. If you want to look up the person behind a specific username, type it in the respective field of the PeekYou toolbar, and then click on the "Peek!" button.
How can I search by tags?
Tags are descriptive keywords or short key-phrases pertinent to a person. PeekYou distinguishes between life-related, school-related, and work-related tags. Life tags include a person's interests, hobbies, and biographical bits and pieces. School tags encompass all educational institutions a person has attended and can include anything from preschool to universities. Work tags cover job titles and employers, past and present.

To search by tags, check the categories you want to be included in your search then click on the "Peek!" button. The preliminary search result will generate three subsets of pre-checked tags on the PeekYou toolbar. They represent the most relevant tags across Life/School/Work categories that are associated with the tag you just searched for (i.e people with the tag you searched for also feature those tags). You can narrow down your search result by elimination: For example, if you know the person you are looking for has got nothing to do with "bungee jumping", that he/she never went to the "University of Maine", or that he/she never worked for "Microsoft", you can weed out all those name matches that feature those tags in their Life, School, and Work categories respectively, by simply un-checking those tags. Through successive eliminative steps you can bring down your search result to a few profiles or a single one.

Profile

How can I create a new PeekYou Profile?
If you want to create a new profile for someone, please make sure that PeekYou doesn't already have one for that person. Anyone can create a new profile by clicking the "add profile" link at the top of this page: all you need is the person's full name, a known location, and at least one Web link about that person. Submitting Web links into the correct categories ensures that the profile you are creating is easy to navigate.
Does PeekYou have any formatting guidelines for the submission of tags and link descriptions?
Make sure life-category tags are in lowercase letters. Use "Blog:" to announce that the following Web link description is that of a blog. Under "Press & News" start the description of the link with the name of the source where it is published, followed by a colon. Where appropriate, under "Business" use introductions like "Owner:", "Founder:", or "Co-founder:" Try to avoid using the word "Profile" for descriptions of popular sites like FaceBook, MySpace, etc. which are commonly known to center around profiles. Include "Profile" in the description of relatively unknown sites. This is an example of a well formatted PeekYou profile for reference. We invite you to check with us soon as we refine our guidelines.
How can I submit or edit information on a PeekYou profile?
Everyone can browse through PeekYou or create new profiles. However, in order to edit or submit information on existing profiles you need to be a registered user. PeekYou will prompt you to log in to your account when you attempt to make changes to a profile. After you have logged in, you can easily edit the "info", "tags", "bio", "photo", and "weblinks" fields by clicking on the appropriate edit buttons. Submitting links into the correct categories ensures easy navigation on the profile. Please note that there can be up to 25 tags on every category, so choose only the most relevant descriptions for the person whose profile you are editing.
How can I delete a PeekYou profile?
There are two reasons for which you may request to delete a profile: if it is your profile and for whatever reason you absolutely do not want the online information featured in it to be publicly displayed on PeekYou, or if it has come to your attention that the profile is a duplicate and PeekYou already has a profile for the same person. We welcome you to contact our team with a link to the specific profile and the reason for removal and we will take it from there.
I am a user of PeekYou, but when I try to edit a profile I get a message that my IP is blocked. Why does this happen and what should I do?
PeekYou.com maintains a strict Spam-free policy. If you feel that your IP Address is being blocked unfairly, you can contact us to request that you be un-banned. We will then investigate on the matter and un-ban your IP address if we determine that you did not violate our policies.
What are banned profiles?
If a PeekYou.com profile is found to contain inappropriate or offensive material, it may be banned, which means that it will no longer show up in search results, and its details will likewise no longer be visible.
What are locked profiles?
Locked profiles are special profiles that can be modified only by registered users. Why wait? Click the "register" link at the top of this page to become a registered user.

Contributions

How is my activity on PeekYou tracked?
Every time you try to make edits to a PeekYou profile, you will be promted to log in to your account. From there forward, every trace you leave on PeekYou will be recorded: be it adding a new profile while you are logged in, editing, or adding tags or links to someone's profile. All this activity will be displayed in the "history page" of the profile you are changing, and will be openly visible to anyone who accesses that "history page". You can also keep track of your contributions to PeekYou for your own records, as they are neatly summarized in your "account page".
How are my contributions to PeekYou monitored?
Any tag you submit will be immidiately visible to the public only if our admins have already preapproved it for content-appropriateness and spelling. If your tag does not immediately show up, it is probably because the tag-word is new to our database and no admin has had the chance to review and approve it yet. As soon as our admins approve it, the tag will appear on the profile you have submitted it to.

The links you submit are also subject to monitoring, but they are reviewed after they become visible to the public. The review process of links can be accelerated on a case by case basis if any PeekYou user brings innapropriate links to our attention. If we determine the links in listHeader to be improper, we will review the entire history of the contributer's activity on PeekYou, and if necessary, take disciplinary measures against the offender, including blocking or deleting his or her account.
How can I report abuse?
If you spot offensive content on a PeekYou profile, please report it to us immediately. You can click on the "report abuse" flag on the right-hand corner of a profile to describe the nature of abuse, and we will review the given profile immediately.
