Craig Considine (born June 10, 1985), is an aspiring PhD candidate, activist, and world citizen. He directed the documentary Journey into America in 2009 with world renowned scholar Professor Akbar Ahmed. Considine was born in Newton, Massachusetts to an Italian-American Catholic mother and an Irish-American Agnostic father, a 5th Army dissident captain of the Vietnam War (by conscription) and a software engineer by profession. He spent his childhood in Needham, Massachusetts, schooling in the public system and St. Sebastians Catholic church, though he was never confirmed. As a teenager he focused on a career in basketball, excelling at regional summer camps and making the Bay State Conference all-star team in 2003. He then went to play collegiate basketball at Eastern Connecticut, where he ended up finding another passion, the pursuit of knowledge. Professor Akbar Ahmed became Considine’s mentor when he transferred to American University, Washington DC in 2004. Since then, he has concentrated his studies on Muslim issues. These include the United States’ relationship with the Muslim world, Islam in America, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. He is a dissident young-American thinker of the post 9-11 era and a vehement critic of neo-imperialism and ‘the war on terror’. While studying for a Masters in International Relations and Politics at the University of London – Royal Holloway in 2007 and 2008, Considine raised $15,000 on his own merit to partake in Professor Ahmed’s unprecedented anthropological study. For one year, he traveled to over 75 US cities, 100 mosques, and into the homes, places of worships, and schools of Americans of all ethninc backgrounds to study American identity, meeting with Noam Chomsky, Jessie Jackson, Hamza Yusuf, Michael Chertoff, and Keith Ellison, among many other notable political figures. To examine ‘what it means to be American’ through the lens of Muslims in the United States, Considine directed Journey into America, an acclaimed documentary feature film. The film/study has been reviewed by the State Department, CNN, The Riz Khan Show – Al Jazeera English, BBC World News America, The Guardian, The Khaleej Times, The Saudi Gazette, and The Boston Globe. He has since devoted himself solely to independent research and blogging, publishing many articles as well as concentrating on the anti-war movement. Considine’s documentary has been screened at many universities in the United States, from Yale to Georgetown, as well as film festivals around the world, including Cairo, Southern France, and Swansea (UK). It has also aired on AAJ TV in Pakistan and viewed at the World Parliament of Religions in Melbourne, Australia.
