I spent 5.5 years doing bacterial genetics research and managing a research lab at the University of Washington. I left to travel the US for over a year, and when I returned I managed to find a job doing industrial enzyme R&D for Youtell Biochemical. Before a full year had passed, I escaped with most of my dignity intact and moved on to Dendreon, because cancer is sad.
