Brian cut his entrepreneurial teeth in high school when he and a friend began their own hay hauling service. He continued his entrepreneurial education in college when he and two classmates started a landscape construction business. Schmitt moved from the nitty-gritty to the shiny when he began working in the jewelry trade in the late s. Earning his Graduate Gemology degree and discovering that his love of computers was a great tool for growing businesses. While buying and selling diamonds Brian designed and implemented an open-to-buy system that increased inventory turnover by , brining the companys total inventory turnover rate to almost double the industry average. In Brian left one of the largest privately held, independent jewelry stores in the country to start his own luxury watch repair website. After a year making some fantastic mistakes he joined Rockbridge Seminary to launch the first fully online seminary. Brian led the seminary in marketing, technology, finance, and student support as the VP of Operations for over eight years. In July of the seminary successfully became the first fully online seminary to be accredited. Schmitt has an MBA and in-the-trenches background to talk finance, operations, technology, leadership and marketing. Specifically in the areas of Conversion Rate Optimization, product management, and user experience. Brian is skilled in lean start-up practices, something that comes with the territory when successfully navigating a non-profit through recent economic times. He has demonstrated the ability to take a vision then define and implement the details of that vision to achieve a functional and profitable result.
