For over 10 years, I have worked in various roles related to the Internet. I began my career at Tricon Global Restaurants, dealing specifically with Flash aspects of the Taco Bell Internet and Intranet websites. In the early days of viral campaigns, the Chihuahua was a perfect icon to spread the word about the bell. Once I graduated from Chapman University, I jumped on the .com bandwagon with Rare Medium. I quickly became the "multimedia guy" of choice in the Orange County office. I gained experience and work ethics alongside an amazing group of designers and developers. We launched several million dollar plus websites, and threw plenty pro bono work over to the University of California, Irvine. But alas, we all know how this story ends. I was laid off with about 90% of the technology field. I found myself consulting for various companies doing lots and lots of Flash work. I did a lot of repetitive work for one company that led to a full time job. While there I gained a lot of programming experience. I picked up PHP and MySQL, did a lot of in-depth Director work and built a lot of full scale flash sites. I spent 3 years in the trenches working night after night with little hope for advancement. I also gained a lot of business sense. The CEO was adamant about documentation and it became a part of my working lifestyle. I took the knowledge that I gained from all of my previous employments (and a superstar coworker) and launched what has so far been a very successful web design shop. In the future, I look forward to making Pixel Jar one of the premier web design shops in the county.
