I pioneered the field of minimally invasive aesthetics and developed the injection techniques for Botox, Collagen, and Restylane. The techniques are used worldwide today. I enjoy being a consultant to the FDA.In the beginning of the AIDS epidemic, I became one of the first doctors in LA to diagnose a case of Kaposis Sarcoma in young patients. Ever since, I have been devoted to seeking out the best possible care for my patients. In 1985, along with one of my oldest and dearest friends Dame Elizabeth Taylor, I helped bring the American Foundation for AIDS Research, into existence, in the living room of my residence. Over the next two decades, we would both found other, allied organizations—the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation, and Klein’s Art for AIDS in Orange County. Even though we both formed other institutions, our commitment to amfAR never wavered, and to this day we both sit on its board. amfAR has invested more than 307 million in support of it's mission. I also co-founded The Elizabeth Taylor Endowment for the UCLA CARE Center in 2007, a renowned facility for HIV/AIDS research and treatment. In the November 2008 issue of L'Uomo Vogue in an article related to AIDS in Africa, it was reported that the organizations I founded have raised in excess of 274 million for HIV research and care. I also serve as a trustee to various boards of directors, some of which include the Jennifer Jones-Simon Foundation and The Hereditary Disease Foundation. Alongside my friend Frank Gehry, I helped the foundation to raise funds and awareness for inherited diseases. In addition to all of this, I co-founded the Rose Tarlow-Arnold W. Klein Breast Cancer Foundation at UCLA which provides breast cancer treatment for individuals who are unable to afford it.I realized the value of skin's beauty at a very early age, when I suffered severe burns, causing me to wear long sleeves until around 21 years old. The burns opened my eyes to aesthetics, as I began to envision and appreciate various forms of beauty. In the 1960s, under the influence of Louie Kahn and Andy Warhol, I developed a love of the visual arts. When I moved to California for my internship, I met a seminal group of artists -- including John Baldessari, Frank Gehry, Robert Graham, Ed Rusha and Ed Moses -- that further influenced my perspective on exquisite forms, especially the human face.
