I used to be a historian, but I drifted. I mostly run start-ups at the moment. I'm 'Head Gardener' at Mindapples, a social business helping us all take care of our minds the way we take care of our bodies, and working with some big multinationals to improve the mental effectiveness of their people. Before that I co-founded School of Everything, an online marketplace for face-to-face learning, and I'm working on another start-up called Do a Bit and a web TV show called The Lock-In. When I'm not doing that I'm interested in reforming existing organisations to make better use of networks and technologies. I write and speak about how technology is changing society, and help some big acronyms like the RSA, NESTA, PwC and the NSPCC engage their communities and make better use of digital tools. I'm slowly realising that studying the history of periods of great social change has been the perfect preparation for navigating the swirling waters of the digital age.
