Born and raised in Kirkland, WA, Alex got serious about music and singing in his junior high school years after hearing Frank Sinatra sing "I've Got the World on a String." Alex had played trombone since he was 11, but had never considered singing until that song inspired him. In high school Alex was selected by audition for All State Band and All State Orchestra playing the trombone.  Vocally, Alex won 1st place at the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition in both the Musical Theatre and Classical Categories, and placed 3rd in the Washington state-wide Solo/Ensemble classical music competition.  Alex attended Central Washington University for two years.  During that time, he studied with Vijay Singh in classical and jazz voice.  Alex won 2nd place in the National Association of Teachers of Singing college competition. He then made the inevitable move to Chicago to attend Columbia College Chicago where he has been fortunate enough to work with the prolific and accomplished musicians listed under "Notable Performances" at left. In addition to these musicians, he has had the opportunity to talk to and learn from many other international performers including Christian McBride, Cedar Walton, and Chuchito Valdez.  Alex performs as the lead singer with the Columbia College Jazz Ensemble and leads the trombone section.  He graduates this summer with an Degree in Jazz Studies: Vocal Performance and Music Business.
