I'm a Senior Technical Innovations Coordinator at Mimas, a national centre for innovations and data services based at the University of Manchester in the UK ( I'm currently working on a range of projects 'Linking Lives' (, 'WW Discovery' (, the JISC Discovery Management Framework ( and a technical review project for the Manchester Museums and Galleries Partnership. These projects are primarily about advocating open data as well as implementing open APIs (application programming interfaces) and RDF based Linked Open Data technologies. I'm involved in various committees, currently being the Secretary of the UK Museums Computer Group and a director and trustee of the Manchester Jazz Festival. I previously worked at UKOLN, University of Bath managing the LOCAH Linked Open Data project, the JISC Observatory project and the SWORD project. I've played the guitar for a number of years in various bands, and have made several records. I blog about jazz (, write occasional reviews for the Jazzwise magazine website, and host a radio show on Manchesters ALL FM . station. I studied BSc Economics and then MA Continental Philosophy at the University of Warwick. Following this I was a professional guitarist in a number of London based bands, and a sound engineer for various independent artists, notably My Bloody Valentine and Sonic Boom (Spacemen ).
