I am a consultant who helps academics, artists, and activists turn their vibrant ideas into reality and get their work into the communities they want to reach. The clients I work with are engaged, brilliant, and creative people and organizations who are passionate about social change including professors, filmmakers, community organizers, independent scholars, performers, and nonprofits. I help with the nuts and bolts of the creative process, from editing manuscripts and websites to designing artist publicity campaigns to authoring grants for your project. As you can see, my work bridges three realms that are often assumed separate academia, art, and activism. These are the communities Ive moved in and across my entire life. I earned a PhD in Cultural Studies and became a professor who taught college students, I trained as a dancer and performed in concerts, and I collaborated with members of my own and other marginalized populations to advocate social justice. Yet for years I thought these roles I adored would always be separate. I worried that my fellow dancers and filmmaker friends would be bored by my nerdy academic self who loved scholarly research and teaching, or that my passionate activist friends would find my love of beautiful and challenging art too frivolous, or that my fellow academics wouldnt take me seriously if they knew I organized drag shows and activist rallies. I now realize that artists, activists, and academics do their best, most world-changing work collaboratively. Braided together, these communities are the lifeblood of social change. I am part of all three at once, and Im betting you might be too.
